NC State Bookstores Unveils Name for New Flagship Store in Talley Student Union

Wolfpack Outfitters Scheduled to Open in Spring 2015

Raleigh, N.C. (August 18, 2014) — The NC State Bookstores is looking forward to its spacious new home within the new Talley Student Union, and with it, a new name: Wolfpack Outfitters.

NC State joins the ranks of many campus stores that are choosing to shed the “bookstore” moniker in favor of something more contemporary.

“The term, “bookstore” no longer describes the majority of what we do,” explained Anthony Sanders, associate director of the NC State Bookstores. “With the evolution of the traditional textbook into ebooks, rentals, manuals and computer-accessed course materials, the term “bookstore” doesn’t really apply to today’s campus store. On top of that, we carry so much more.

“While we will always be the main NC State provider for course materials, we also will feature a significantly larger and ever-expanding product spectrum to satisfy the demand of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans,” he added.

The NC State Bookstore moved to Harrelson Hall in 2011 to accommodate the expansion and renovation of Talley Student Union. It’s new location in Phase II is expected to open in Spring 2015 and will feature a Starbucks, Clinique Counter, expanded computer department as well as an interactive gaming center to go along with a larger footprint of 40,000 square feet. Popular athletic brands such as adidas, Under Armour, Nike, Champion and more will be available as well as some never-before-seen brands in the collegiate bookstore such as Ralph Lauren Polo.

While Wolfpack Outfitters will become the new name of main location, NC State Bookstores will remain the parent organization.

“We realize that people have developed a sense of trust in the NC State Bookstores brand, including its excellent service and competitive pricing. They also recognize that we are the official bookstore of the university. As such, we will maintain that name as an umbrella over all of our locations and services,” said Sanders.

The Bookstore has three locations: main and Centennial Campus (The Pack Shop) as well as a permanent location within the Eye Store at the PNC arena. Additionally, it has its own online store (http://shop.bookstore.ncsu.edu), concessions at athletics events, and the on-campus print shop (Wolf Xpress), all of which directly support need- and merit-based scholarships at NC State.

“We’re proud of the fact that we’re not only the official bookstore of the university, but we also directly support it each and every time we make a sale,” said Pat Hofmeister, director of NC State Bookstores.
