Tim Hogan, director of NC State Student Centers, has received the Emeritus Award by ACUI (Association of College Unions International). This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to student unions and campus activities throughout their careers.

ACUI Conference held March 8-12 in Pittsburgh, PA
The award comes as Hogan prepares for his retirement in fall 2026, marking the conclusion of a distinguished 30-year career in higher education, including 15 years of transformative service to the Wolfpack community.
Hogan joined NC State in 2011 during a pivotal moment in the university’s history. As construction was underway on the $120 million renovation of the Talley Student Union, Hogan’s visionary leadership was instrumental in reimagining the facility. Under his guidance, the student center evolved from a building with only 21 non-dining chairs into a 283,000-square-foot cornerstone of campus life – a “living room” for the university that prioritizes student growth, learning, and involvement.
“Tim Hogan is truly the epitome of a ‘students first’ notion, not only in words but in action every day,” said Justine Hollingshead, associate vice chancellor for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs at NC State. “He encourages his team to be student-focused and is the first to reach out to campus partners to collaborate and meet clients’ needs.”
Throughout his tenure, Hogan has been a steadfast advocate for servant leadership. Managing a team of nearly 40 professional staff and up to 100 student employees, he has fostered a culture built on the core values of excellence, respect and stewardship. His mentorship has left an indelible mark on countless professionals in the field.
“Tim took a chance on me as a graduate student and challenged me to see potential in myself that I never imagined,” said Erica Epps, associate director of Student Centers’ event services. “I truly cannot imagine NC State Student Centers without the heart and humanity he brings to them every day.”
Hogan’s journey in student affairs began at Ohio University’s Baker Center, followed by a tenure as associate director at Georgia State University. Throughout his career, he has been an active participant in ACUI, creating professional development pathways to ensure the next generation of student union leaders is prepared for the challenges of the future.
The Emeritus Award is a testament to Hogan’s relentless advocacy for the “places, purpose and people” that define the student experience.
