Legends of NC State Golf Tournament Scheduled for Nov. 22

November 8, 2013 (Raleigh, N.C.) — The Lonnie Poole Golf Course will host the 2013 Legends of NC State Golf Tournament Friday, Nov. 22, to celebrate members of the Wolfpack community who have made significant contributions to NC State athletics. Revenues from the tournament will be used to support the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse, which is set to open in December.

This is the second year the Legends Tournament has taken place. Platinum-level sponsors for the tournament include Bojangles/Tri-Arc Foods, U.S. Bank, and Revels Turf & Tractor.

This year, more than 10 “Legends” will participate, including Elliott Avent, Chris Corchiani, Page Marsh, Bates Battaglia, Terry Harvey, Tom Gugliotta, Matt Hill, Torry Holt, Erik Larsen, Kelly Mitchum, Terrence Holt, Dereck Whittenburg, Terry Gannon, Don Shea and Mark Thomas.

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course not only fulfills a recreational and athletics role but also provides the university with a functioning laboratory for research and teaching. Turfgrass Management, Professional Golf Management, Crop Science, Horticulture, Entomology and Plant Pathology programs as well as College of Agriculture and Life Sciences sustainability students all use the golf course in their studies and research.

“We have enjoyed watching the golf course grow to meet the needs of the variety of NC State communities,” said Dr. Dan Adams, vice chancellor of Campus Enterprises at NC State. “The Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse is the last piece of the puzzle to this great location.”

Gold Sponsors include the Licensing Resource Group, MasterCard, Adidas. Silver Sponsors are Player’s Retreat, Shelco, Coke, Chick-fil-A and E-Z-Go/Textron. Bronze Sponsors include Carolinas Golf Group, LLC, Campus Enterprises at NC State, Toshiba and US Foods.

About the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse: Set to be completed in January, the Clubhouse is now available for scheduling. Its dining room can seat 130 people and can be reserved in conjunction with golf outings or private events. The Raleigh-based Player’s Retreat is the official food service operator.
