Course Ready continues to expand its reach and impact with 70 percent of undergraduates participating in the fall 2025 semester. That figure marks a 15 percent increase compared to the program’s first semester of implementation, reflecting both strong adoption and growing confidence in the program’s value.

The program ensures students have their required course materials in hand on the first day of class, removing barriers that can impact learning, performance and persistence. Students reported that the program makes it easier to stay organized, prepared and engaged throughout the semester.

First-year students led the way with the highest participation at 93 percent followed by sophomores at 85 percent. Participation among juniors and seniors was 76 percent and 56 percent respectively, which aligns with the fact that upper-level coursework typically requires fewer materials.

By college, the University College, Poole College of Management and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences had the highest participation rates. The College of Design, the College of Engineering and the Agricultural Institute showed the lowest levels of participation, reflecting the varying course material needs across academic disciplines.

“These numbers show that Course Ready is delivering on its promise of access and affordability for students,” said Jeff Halliburton, senior director for auxiliary services. “The feedback we’re hearing confirms that when students start the semester with the right materials, they feel more confident and more connected to their coursework. That momentum makes a difference.”

Now in its second full semester, Course Ready has become an essential part of NC State’s broader efforts to promote student success, affordability and retention.
