NC State Bookstores, as well as several Student Affairs units and student organizations, will move to Harrelson Hall, located adjacent to the brickyard on central campus beginning June 1. The move will ensure that students are best served during the Talley Student Center renovation & addition project, which will begin this summer.
Bookstore
NC State Bookstores, which has occupied its current facility on West Dunn Avenue since 1959, has enclosed and up fitted the lower level of Harrelson Hall for use as a temporary bookstore facility until it can move into permanent space in the new Talley Student Center in 2014. While the space is about half the size of the existing bookstore, it will continue to carry the vast majority of items currently stocked and all services will remain intact while the store awaits the construction of its new home in the Talley Student Center.
The bookstore will continue to carry the vast majority of our current offerings, we’ll just have to restock more often. They will also carry our seasonal items, like textbooks, on mobile shelving so to be more flexible with the space.
The new bookstore in Talley will be located in the vicinity of the current Talley loading dock and is part of Phase II of the project. It will boast almost 40,000 square feet spread over two floors and will offer the students a comfortable, updated shopping environment that will include a computer resource center that will be the envy of other university bookstores. It will also include a Clinique counter and a lower-level coffee shop to be used by patrons while browsing through the newly designed trade book department. The store will also provide all the apparel and gift items a diehard Wolfpack fan desires as well as a textbook (course content) resource and supplies department.
The WolfXpress Print and Copy Center will be located adjacent to the bookstore on the main level of the Talley Center and will offer copy and print services for students, faculty, and staff as well as the Espresso book machine which will print and bind library-quality paperback books on-site in minutes. Wolf Xpress offers a variety of other services including thesis printing and binding (on site), a notary, and would welcome almost any sized packages to be shipped.
Student Affairs
Student Affairs units will migrate to Harrelson Hall in stages beginning in June. The first groups to move in June are the GLBT Center, Native American Student Association (NASA), Student Government, Student Organizational Resource Center (SORC), and the Union Activities Board (UAB). In December 2011, Campus Activities, Chaplains’ Cooperative Ministry, CSLEPS, Parents & Families Services, Student Centers Board of Directors, Student Legal Services and the Women’s Center will move to Harrelson. Finally, as Phase I is completed in late 2013, The Gregg Museum of Art & Design will move to 516 Brickhaven Drive, and Ticket Central and University Theatre will move to Thompson Hall.
While the existing Talley will continue to be operational until late 2013, these organizations are moving to Harrelson to better serve students. Talley will be hard to navigate, and construction will be noisy and disruptive at times. With Harrelson’s close proximity to the Brickyard, Harrelson is expected to be a great “home-away-from-home” while our student center goes through a much-needed renovation and expansion.
