NC State University is proud to have one of its own alumna designing the new Talley Student Center. Turan Duda, design partner with Duda/Paine Architects in Durham, N.C., was a student in the School of Design in the 1970s, and actually began his time studying at N.C. State the first year Talley Student Center opened in 1973.
Duda has honed his skills as a design architect for more than 30 years. As design partner, his personal approach to design informs the creative process for the firm. Clients rely on his ability to narrate architectural concepts, interpreting their aspirations, creating pictorial visions, and inspiring concensus among different groups.
His intellectual pursuits outside the firm include lectures to university students, professional organizations and civic groups on topics such as urban place-making, the role of public spaces in private development, and the collaborative design process. He has held an academic position with Yale School of Architecture and has served as a visiting critic at M.I.T., Columbia University, The Cooper Union, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and North Carolina State University.
Duda and his team have done an excellent job of examining how the Talley Student Center current functions and how it should function in the context of the N.C. State University campus, creating a solution that positions Talley as a crossroads that will serve the university for decades to come. We are grateful to have expertise that was cultivated at N.C. State and honed over 30 years through designing some of the finest buildings in the country applied to this monumental project.
