Exciting News and Updates!

|

It’s been quite some time since my last blog post, but you can blame Campus Enterprises for that. We have had so much going on in our offices lately that I’ve unfortunately had to stray from my blogging duties. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to:

[ul style=”1″] [li]The Bookstore put on Tailgate Toss, a two-day cornhole competition that featured a grand prize of over $800-worth of tailgating merchandise[/li] [li]The Bookstore is working on some great new contests and promotions for students to win even more prizes[/li] [li]The Bookstore is getting close to launching a pretty awesome new program that you’re definitely going to be interested in, so stay tuned for announcements and updates on that[/li] [li]Campus Enterprises started the Spirit Bands campaign to promote Red Fridays on campus by distributing free wristbands to students and faculty at different locations around campus (I think there still might be a few left, so go get yours if you haven’t already!)[/li][/ul]

And then there’s this little thing called the Talley renovation. Well, today we finally got the green light to go ahead and announce that the grand opening of the new Talley Student Union will be on Wednesday, October 23rd! It’s been so hectic here with everyone trying to get everything ready for the opening, and now it’s finally here!

As you probably know, Phase I of the New Talley was supposed to open earlier in the semester, but due to a few unforeseen drawbacks, this wasn’t possible. It was definitely a little bit stressful on this end, especially being sworn to secrecy every time a new tentative opening date was released… And with good reason, since every time we got a new date, it was canceled and pushed back again. But let me tell you, the wait was so worth it!

Another one of the interns and I got an exclusive tour of Talley last week and we got to see all of the amazing changes that have been made over the past two and a half years. Phase I of Talley includes a whole slew of new dining options, including Jason’s Deli, Los Lobos Mexican Grill, Red Sky Pizza, and Tuffy’s Diner. I tried the turkey wrap from Jason’s Deli and it was honestly one of the best wraps I’ve ever had (I wish I were exaggerating). We also took burrito bowls from Los Lobos and cannolis from Red Sky to-go! Believe a fellow member of the Pack when I say that the food at Talley is absolutely incredible. We’ve all been waiting for this for a long time, and trust me…it’s totally worth it!

Phase I also includes a ton of lounge space, both indoors and out, and now all of that red clay and dirt we’ve been staring at for the past two years is finally being replaced with beautiful green grass as the Stafford Commons. The other parts of Phase II will open in the spring, but I can’t wait for Phase II to be complete in early 2015. Why, you ask? Once it’s finished, the Talley Student Union will feature a 40,000 square-foot state-of-the-art NC State Bookstore! Would it be wrong of me to say that I’m most excited for there to be a Starbucks inside? It would be? Oops…

But in all seriousness, we’re doing everything we can to make sure that we’re providing the students, faculty, and other Wolfpack fans with the absolute best facilities that we possibly can. The Talley Student Union is going to be the place for students to get whatever it is they need, whether it’s a quick snack from the Talley Market, a burger from Tuffy’s Diner, textbooks, laptops, school supplies, and other Wolfpack gear from the new Bookstore, or just a nice spot to relax in between classes. The only downside to Talley that I can see is that I won’t be around to experience it for as long as I’d like to. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up an NC State grad student and still be able to get my Howling Cow fix from the Talley Market…

Well, that should do it for this post. Stay tuned for more updates on Talley, the Bookstore, and other exciting news from Campus Enterprises. I promise [to try] to not go another month until my next post.

Until next time… GO PACK!
