NC State’s Office of Finance and Administration recognized employees for their meritorious accomplishments and contributions to the NC State community on April 29, 2019. These accomplishments include any notable contributions that are above and beyond an employee’s normal job description that showed demonstrated excellence in their departments or divisions, the NC State campus community, the State of North Carolina, or the lives of others.
Nominees from Campus Enterprises include Bob Sorochak, Julie Moon, Elizabeth MacDonald, Crayton Garrell, Penelope El-Bay, and Brian Corcoran (shown left to right with Campus Enterprises AVC Richard Berlin on the far left). Nominee Bob Sorochak was one of five Finance and Administration employees selected to represent the division at the university level.
Bob was recognized for his innovative methods of recruiting and retaining employees at Case Dining Hall, where he is the general manager.
“Bob and his team have done a great job in getting the team up to speed quickly by cross-training them on multiple positions for flexibility and survival. Even when his unit is closed on Saturday, the team will come in to do extra training for new staff and host developmental programs for students who want to become student cooks,” said Shawn Hoch, who nominated Bob. “Bob has reached even further into the community to create and collaborate with Wake Tech hospitality, Step Up Ministries and Passage Home to provide professional training for people who need a helping hand in life to develop job-ready skills. He also works Refugee Hope Partners and the School for the Blind to provide employment opportunities, too. Many of these participants become NC State Dining employees. Many other units have benefitted from Bob’s initiatives, and many other managers are now supporting these efforts.”
Sorochak will represent the Finance and Administration Division at the NC State Awards for Excellence Ceremony in June.
