Staying Healthy During Flu Season

No one wants to get the flu, because it is never fun and you’ll miss out on a lot of things while you are recovering. So, here are some information and tips to help you get through the flu season without catching this unpleasant sickness.

What is the flu and when is flu season?

Seasonal influenza or the “flu”, is caused by type A or B influenza viruses. Symptoms of this sickness includes:

  • Sudden onset of fever
  • Coughing
  • Headache
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose

Seasonal influenza mostly occurs in October, and lingers until March. Although this sickness does not necessarily require medical attention for full recovery, it is best to stay alert and take necessary precautions to avoid getting the flu.

How to avoid getting the flu and prevent it from spreading:

  • Getting the flu vaccine every year. This is the best thing you could do to prevent yourself from getting infected.
  • Covering mouth and nose with tissue when coughing then dispose of the tissue immediately
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • Avoid close contact with sick people
  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Ask your doctor about flu antivirals, and only take them if your doctor prescribes them!
