Paychecks Held Not Mailed – Mandatory Direct Deposit
In order to reduce the amount of face-to-face contact, University Payroll mailed paychecks to employees without direct deposit during the pandemic. Now that we have returned to campus, effective with the paycheck dated 11/12/21, paychecks will no longer be mailed.
As a reminder from when you were hired, direct deposit is mandatory and is a condition of employment (Regulation 05.45.01 – Direct Deposit of Pay).
Anyone who has not enrolled in direct deposit will be required to come to the University Payroll Office to retrieve their paycheck. Anyone receiving their 3rd paycheck or more will have to complete the direct deposit enrollment before checks will be released. Direct deposit enrollment can be completed through Employee Self Service.
Direct Deposit enrollment should be completed by 11/7/21 in order for the paycheck dated 11/12/21 and future paychecks to direct deposit.
No Social Security number on file with Payroll can mean no Direct Deposit
Per IRS regulations, all employees must have a social security number for the purpose of reporting employment income. If you are a foreign national visiting NC State and you have not provided your card to Payroll you cannot enroll in direct deposit and your paycheck may be held at the Payroll Office until you supply them with your card. The best way to prevent this is to contact ICTquestions@ncsu.edu letting them know you have received your new card. International Compensation & Taxation (ICT) will supply a link to a secure portal that will allow you to upload an image of your card safely. Please DO NOT attach an image to any email sent to ICT.
Please treat this with urgency to avoid possible interruption of your pay!
