Pilots retention bonus for student staff in dining
Campus Enterprises has increased wages for student dining employees to a minimum of $10/hour effective January 3, 2022, and will raise wages for all Campus Enterprises student employees effective June 4, 2022.
“Student employees are a vital part of our operations,” said Rich Berlin, associate vice chancellor for Campus Enterprises. “We know that they have employment choices, so we are increasing our wages to reflect the market rate for similar positions. We hope that these increases, in addition to other benefits of working with us, will encourage more students to work with us.”
Student positions are divided into four tiers based on job responsibilities, with first-year wages ranging from $10 – $12.75/hour (up from $8.50 – $11.25). Students can now earn up to $14.25/hour (up from $12.75) depending on how many years they work with the department.
“For example, a student could start with us as a first-year student making $10/hour, and through training and increased responsibilities earn $14.25/hour by their fourth year,” added Berlin. “We want students to see our operations as a place where they can learn, contribute and grow.”
Campus Enterprises employees enjoy a flexible work schedule with as few as 10 hours per week, with leadership, training and promotional opportunities. All positions are work-study eligible.
Campus Enterprises students employed in the dining and catering operations also benefit from one free meal per shift and the opportunity to earn a bonus of up to $200 at the end of the semester through a new pilot program in Spring 2022.
“Dining strongly depends on students finishing each semester with us. We are hoping that this bonus opportunity will help us finish each semester strong and encourage these same dedicated students to return the following term.,” said Berlin.
