For those working remotely due to COVID-19, this is a great time to invest in your professional development!
All Campus Enterprises employees currently working remotely are asked to complete at least two of the Campus Enterprises featured workshops below as a part of their remote learning plan. Supervisors will be receiving weekly updates on staff participation.
In addition to the featured workshops, the LinkedIn Learning and technology training are pre-approved uses of remote work time. For the role-specific training, please confirm with your supervisor. Please note that for any training outside of the Reporter registration system (including, for example, LinkedIn Learning or ServSafe) your supervisor will not be automatically notified that you have completed a course, so you may wish to share any certificates you earn or other proof of completion with your supervisor.

NC State OIT: NC State Data Security Training

Hazard Communication for Non-Laboratory Personnel
This training is intended to give you a basic understanding of the hazards presented by chemical products, where you can find safety information about the chemicals you use, how to recognize if you are being exposed to a chemical hazard, and finally, basic information about how to protect yourself from chemical exposures. To comply with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) all new NC State employees and volunteers will receive training as described in North Carolina State University’s Hazard Communication Program.
Slips, Trips and Falls Awareness
This is recommended training for all University employees as a general awareness training.
Workplace Violence Prevention and Guidance for Managers and Leaders
Safety is a community responsibility. According to the Campus/Workplace Violence Prevention Regulation all supervisors and managers are required to attend workplace violence prevention training, but this training is recommended for non-managers as well. We are all committed to a workplace free from violence and threats of violence, and we all have a role to play.
Active Shooter Survival Training – Shots Fired On Campus: When Lightning Strikes
If you find yourself in an Active Shooter situation, it will be up to you to quickly make decisions in order to protect your life and, possibly, the lives of others. You do not want the first time that you are thinking about how to respond to an active threat to be in a situation where your life is at stake. Active Shooter Response Training seeks to give you tools that will aid you in taking decisive actions towards protecting yourself in the most dangerous of situations.

ServSafe Food Handler Training
With 30 years of experience ensuring restaurants, workers, and guests stay safe, ServSafe is continuing to take the next step in response to COVID-19. ServSafe is providing FREE training for the industry focused on food safety and COVID-19 precautions. The ANSI accredited Food Handler course is free through May 31, 2020.
UMass Chef Culinary Conference
The 2020 Tastes of the World Chef Culinary Conference will be virtual and free! Our theme will still be Planetary Health, however, there will be a focus on post COVID-19 times in the areas of strategic operational planning, wellness and safety, and communication. Dr. Walter Willett, the famed epidemiologist, will kick off the event on Tuesday, June 9 at 2 p.m. (EDT). During the event we will discuss how operators and the supply chain can support each other and how we can rebuild our foodservice segment and community during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently offered for free from the American Egg Board, this two-part courses includes:
- “Egg Foundations”, a 25-hour online course, will focus on moist and dry cooking techniques, eggs on the menu, high volume cooking, egg safety, and nutrition.
- “Egg Functionality”, a 5-hour course, will focus on egg science and key areas of egg functionality and related applications. It will be suitable for advanced chefs, R&D professionals, and culinologists.

- Participation in any of these e-learning workshops will enhance your individual power skills (aka soft skills). The tools you learn through these workshops allow you to provide better customer service and to share your knowledge with your colleagues and the employees that work for you. The lessons learned align with the division’s values. Lastly, expanding your power skills is a great way to demonstrate interest in yourself and your desire to take the next step in your professional development path….these workshops look great on your resume.
Will my supervisor know that I have completed a workshop?
- Your supervisor will receive weekly updates on the Campus Enterprises Featured Workshops only. For any other workshops that you complete, including LinkedIn Learning, you may wish to share any certificates or other proof of completion with your supervisor.
How do I know if I’ve already done a workshop?
- For any workshops in the Reporter system, including CE, OIED or OIT workshops, you can view your personal training summary. For any e-learning completed elsewhere you would need to log into that system.
I need assistance using REPORTER.
- There’s a course for that! This online course covers the fundamentals of registering and managing your training records in REPORTER. You can also request assistance from ce-development@ncsu.edu or reporter_support@ncsu.edu.
What if I don’t have a computer to access e-learning?
- Many of these workshops are mobile friendly, including the CE Online Workshops or LinkedIn Learning. The webinar style workshops are easier to access from a computer rather than a mobile device. If you need assistance with technology, please reach out to ce-development@ncsu.edu.
