Culinary Associate Boot Camp

Campus Enterprises Mission: Campus Enterprises is NC State’s division of retail and hospitality organizations. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.

Purpose: Provide vital support to Campus Enterprises and NC State Dining by providing an excellent dining experience for all guests.

Location: Dining Halls (Fountain, Case or Clark)

Compensation: Minimum starting wage $10.00/hr (Tier 1).  After successful completion of the training period, you will be promoted to Student Cook with a starting wage of $10.75/hr (Tier 2). Opportunity for raises based on years of service within Campus Enterprises.

Work Schedule: Culinary training will be on site during the first two weeks of employment. 

Preferred/typical work hours:

Breakfast  from 6:30 am to 10:30 am

Lunch   10:30 am to 3 pm

Dinner 4 pm to 10 pm

Weekends: 9 am to 3 pm

                   3 pm to 9 pm

Essential functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work in an energetic environment to prep, serve and restock food items
  • Under the direction of culinary staff, prepare small-batch cooking in a high volume food service operation
  • Actively participate in training to learn how to produce food following detailed, standardized recipes
  • Maintain temperature and sanitation to ensure food safety
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests
  • Assist with weekly and monthly cleaning of the kitchen and production area

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current NC State University student with a flexible schedule
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills 
  • Ability to work with a team to serve a diverse population 
  • Ability to read and follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Work with a sense of urgency, always be timely
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must attend mandatory student employee orientation and training sessions

Preferred Qualifications:

Willing to make a multi-semester commitment to NC State Dining and interest in advancing to higher tier culinary positions based on training and performance
