Student Employee: Hailey Eisen
Hailey Eisen, a fashion textile management major, started working with Wolfpack Outfitters during her sophomore year. Initially, she was a bookstore ambassador but decided to expand her role and apply for a marketing internship. During her time as a bookstore ambassador, she was able to promote both the NC State and Wolfpack Outfitters’ brands through social media, events, etc. Eisen stated that her ambassador role helped her transition into her position as a marketing intern.
“After a semester of involvement as an ambassador, I decided to apply for a position in marketing that seemed like the best fit for me,” Eisen said. “I was already familiar with all of the staff, the NC State brand, and the environment in Wolfpack Outfitters and wanted to gain more experience in digital media and marketing.”
According to Eisen, being a marketing intern has allowed her to learn new skills that are transferable for her future professional career. She described some of her daily tasks and learned skills.
“On the more creative side, I’m exposing myself to Adobe Suite, including Lightroom, Premiere and Photoshop,” Eisen explained. “I also work closely with my manager to create content, from email materials to social media posts. Additionally, I am learning to track analytics on several digital platforms.”
In addition to technical skills, Eisen has gained communication and team-building skills working in the Campus Enterprises marketing department.
“Learning how to be a leader, but also a great team member is a skill I am so happy I have learned,” Eisen said. “In marketing, collaboration and communication are key. Learning how a team works together to meet deadlines and create has been one of my favorite things about this job.”
Eisen mentioned that one of the most difficult things about her job is learning technical skills on her own. She had to take the initiative to individually learn certain applications that are essential in performing her job properly.
“When it comes to Lightroom, Premiere, and Photoshop, a lot of the times it’s important for me to learn and figure things out on my own in order to familiarize myself with the software,” Eisen said. “It has been challenging to navigate these platforms, but I am learning to enjoy the process.”
Working for Campus Enterprises marketing team has given her a voice on campus, and that is one of her favorite parts about her job.
“NC State has an immense amount of pride, and I am able to represent my school in a unique way through my internship,” she reflected. “It is amazing to see the content I create uploaded to a huge audience that appreciates it.”
Eisen said the internship has allowed her to grow and get involved at NC State. She has been able to contribute to the university in a bigger way than just being a student. Her advice for incoming students is to take advantage of opportunities with Campus Enterprises.
“This internship is one of the best decisions I have made since beginning my college career. I have learned so much about myself, and have involved myself with NC State in a unique and amazing way. My advice is to go for it! Don’t hesitate to apply for an on-campus job. You will gain valuable experience, network, and represent NC State,” she concluded.
After graduating, Eisen plans on working in the fashion industry. She is confident that her role as a marketing intern has trained her to take on new roles.
“I hope to have a job-creating content for a fashion-based company,” Eisen said. “I have no idea if I would work in the studio, planning online content, or managing social platforms, but I am glad my internship has prepared me for any of those roles!”
