Student Employee: Megnath Veluchamy
Megnath Veluchamy is a dedicated master’s student in mechanical engineering and a huge asset to the team at Chick-fil-A in the Atrium Food Court.
Since starting with Campus Enterprises in fall 2023 as a dining associate, Megnath has already received two promotions, most recently from his position as student lead to assistant student manager.
As an assistant student manager, Megnath takes pride in training new employees and supporting them as they learn. From guiding them through machinery and techniques to stepping in when lines get long, Megnath is the first to lend a hand wherever he’s needed. His role also includes socking supplies and ensuring a smooth connection between student staff and full-time employees.
An empathetic leader, Megnath understands the difficulty of balancing school work and his student job and knows how best to support new students.
“I had a tough time my first semester balancing school with 15 hours of work,” he says. “Once I got used to the work, it became a stress buster. I always tell new employees that the first semester can be tough at times, but I’ve been through it and know it gets better. Since many students are new to the culture, they need some breathing room.”
Megnath credits this experience with helping him develop important transferable skills. “In my role at Chick-fil-A, I’ve learned to take initiative and hone my leadership and management skills, as well as developing my abilities in quality control and customer service,” he says. “These skills have great value in any position, and having a solid foundation in these areas will help me grow and succeed as a professional.”
Megnath shares that he has especially enjoyed the community aspect of his job, which has helped him revive his extroverted nature post-COVID.
“I went from being extroverted to more introverted during the pandemic, and working here has helped bring forward my social side,” he adds. “My role has pushed me to open up and connect with people from all backgrounds, which I really enjoy.”
