Student Employee: Yash Bharodiya
Yash Bharodiya is a NANO engineering graduate student and student manager at the On The Oval Food Hall on Centennial Campus. Having spent his whole life in India, Yash was nervous about starting at NC State for a variety of reasons.
“When I arrived here I was depressed due to homesickness, different cultures, and my introverted nature,” he recalled. “I applied to work with Campus Enterprises because I wanted to be employed in an environment where I could work with a diverse team and make friends concurrently.”
Yash first worked at Fountain Dining Hall, where he worked at the pizza and pasta stations.
“In the beginning, I was not able to perform the tasks that were related to non-vegetarian foods but gradually I learned and I got used to it.”
Since working with Campus Enterprises, Yash has picked up several skills that will help him in his future career. “Here, I learned how to adjust myself in an environment that I am not used to and how to react in sudden situations,” said Yash. “Working here also helped me to learn about western countries as I was never exposed to that. I used to watch the chefs prepare delicious dishes and now, I can even prepare the enchiladas, lasagnas and some Mexican cuisines. Now I can prepare perfect round shaped Rotis (Indian bread).”
Now at The Oval, Yash is a student manager, which has helped him improve his leadership skills. He was originally appointed as an assistant student manager at first and later Yash was promoted to the Student manager. “Here, I train the new students, provide them with any kind of help they need, either on the job or in their personal lives,” he added. “All of the student employees are good friends of mine because I help them with everything as much as I can such as appointments, leaves, sickness, personal issues, etc.” Yash took part in the leadership intensives organized by Campus Enterprises which helped him understand how to handle unexpected situations.
Yash now aspires to cook and open his own restaurant. “I have a dream to cook a special dish for my parents when I see them next year. I plan to be a businessman as I come from a family having a business background. It is one of my life goals to become an owner of a renowned restaurant in New York City.”
